Scary Movie Franchise..

  • Scary Movie is directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans as part of Wayans Bros. Entertainment, in 2000.
  • Scary Movie is an American dark comedy which parodies the horror, slasher and mystery genres.
  • There are many mid and late 1990s movies, which are spoofed such as 'Scream trilogy', 'The Sixth Sense', 'I know What You Did Last Summer','The Usual Suspects', 'The Matrix' and 'The Blair Witch Project' as well as these is also spoofs a more classic horror film; 'Halloween'.
  • The tagline of the Scary Movie was: "No mercy. No shame. No sequel." The last reference referring to horror movie becoming long-running franchises. However, in 2001, Scary Movie 2 was released with the tagline 'We lied'.
  • The film was followed with a series of sequels Scary Movie 3 ('03) and Scary Movie 4 ('06).
  • The title is ironic as Scream was originally going to be titled 'Scary Movie' but was changed.

Pastiche- Means a literary or other artistic genre. the word has two other competiting menaings as well; Hodge-podge- refering something which is cobbled together in an imitation of several original works. Example- Scary Movie. Or an imitation- which denotes a leterary technique of employing a general light- hearted toungue-in-cheek imitation of another style. Again an example of this can be seen in Scary movie.

Parody- Is also known as send-up or spoof. This means to create a work to mock, comment on, or poke fun at an original work,of it's subject or author by using humour or ironic imitations. Scary Movie can be known as a Parody as it mocks films such as 'Scream', 'Halloween and many more.

Spoof- Can mean Parody as well. It is a hoax, a light parody.

Irony- Is a literary device, in which there is an discordance between what one says or does and what one means or what is generally understood. Irony is a mode of expression that calls attention to the character's knowledge and that of the audience. Example being a knife held can be to kill someone also can be to cut something, but it depends on the way it held and what audience's intrepretation of it is.

Intertextuality- Is the shaping of texts' meanings by other texts. It can refer to a borrowing and transformation of a prior text or to a reader’s referencing of one text in reading another.
